Overview

Ruaha National Park, located in central Tanzania, is one of the country’s largest and most pristine parks. Known for its rugged landscapes, diverse wildlife, and tranquil atmosphere, Ruaha offers an unforgettable safari experience. This 3-day safari will take you through the park’s stunning scenery, providing plenty of opportunities to spot a wide range of animals, including elephants, lions, leopards, and rare species such as the African wild dog. With fewer tourists than other parks, Ruaha offers a more intimate and exclusive safari experience.

Itinerary

Arrive at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam (or other nearby airports), where your guide will meet you. From there, you’ll embark on a flight or drive to Ruaha National Park. The journey takes around 1.5 hours by plane or a 7-8 hour scenic drive from Dar es Salaam.

Upon arrival at Ruaha National Park, you will be transferred to your lodge or camp, where you can relax, enjoy a welcome drink, and take in the surrounding nature. After settling in, enjoy an evening game drive to explore the park and spot the wildlife that roams the park’s open savannas, rivers, and hills. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

After an early breakfast, begin your full-day game drive in the park. Ruaha is renowned for its large elephant herds, lions, leopards, buffalo, and a wide variety of antelope species such as sable, kudu, and eland. The park is also a birdwatcher’s paradise, with over 570 bird species, including the striking yellow-collared lovebird.

You’ll explore various parts of the park, including the Ruaha River, where wildlife congregates to drink. The river is especially busy with elephants, hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species. Your expert guide will lead you through the park’s different habitats, offering insights into the behaviors of the animals and the park’s unique ecosystem.

A packed lunch will be provided for a midday break, and you’ll continue your game drive in the afternoon, seeking out more wildlife and enjoying the stunning landscapes. As the day comes to an end, return to your lodge to refresh, followed by dinner and an overnight stay.

On the final day, take an early morning game drive to experience the park in the early hours when animals are most active. This is an excellent time to spot predators like lions and leopards as they hunt or relax in the cooler hours. The light of the early morning also offers fantastic photographic opportunities.

After breakfast, you’ll have some time to relax before checking out of your accommodation. If time allows, you can enjoy a nature walk with a park ranger or visit the nearby Mdonya River for a chance to observe wildlife in a more serene setting.

Afterward, you will be transferred back to Dar es Salaam (or another nearby airport) for your flight or road transfer home.
