Itinerary
Your adventure begins with a pickup from Kigali International Airport or your hotel. A short Kigali city tour introduces you to Rwanda’s history and culture. Stops include the Kigali Genocide Memorial, which offers a poignant reflection on the country’s past, and the vibrant craft markets showcasing Rwandan artistry. Depending on available time, you may also visit the Kandt National Museum or the Presidential Museum.
Enjoy a leisurely lunch at a local restaurant, where you can savor Rwandan cuisine or continental dishes. After lunch, embark on a scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park in northern Rwanda. Along the way, marvel at the rolling landscapes and vibrant communities, soaking in the beauty of this “land of a thousand hills.” Upon arrival, settle into your lodge and prepare for the next day’s adventure.
An early breakfast prepares you for the highlight of the safari: gorilla trekking. You’ll be transferred to the park headquarters for a comprehensive briefing by experienced ranger guides. As you wait for the briefing to begin, enjoy traditional Rwandan dances and a cup of freshly brewed local coffee.
The ranger will explain trekking guidelines, including key tips such as maintaining a safe distance from the gorillas and refraining from using flash photography. You’ll then be divided into small groups, each assigned to a specific gorilla family. Your driver-guide will take you to the designated trailhead to start the trek.
The trek varies in duration, depending on the location of the gorilla family, but the experience is nothing short of magical. As you trek through dense forests, you’ll witness incredible biodiversity before encountering the majestic mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Spending an hour with these gentle giants is a life-changing experience, providing unforgettable memories and stunning photo opportunities.
On your final day, you’ll immerse yourself in Rwandan culture with a visit to the Gorilla Guardians Village (Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village). This community initiative showcases the rich traditions of the Rwandan people, including former poachers who now advocate for conservation. You’ll engage in traditional activities such as drumming, dancing, and storytelling, gaining insights into the history and customs of Rwanda.
The visit to the cultural village not only enriches your experience but also supports local conservation efforts. By participating in these cultural activities, you contribute to sustainable tourism, helping communities benefit directly from protecting their natural heritage.
After a fulfilling cultural experience, you’ll enjoy a final lunch before heading back to Kigali for your departure flight.
